







It was in an accident according to the carfax but that was 10 years ago. To give some context: Car drives fine and no CEL however when i took it to a european mechanic without VIDA he told me the codes tell him it requires a new transmission. This is why i then took it to the VIDA mechanic above who then showed the above results. I don't think it's a lemon because it drives perfectly fine, SRS stuff i can deal with at a later date. A couple suggests:
Get a Carfax report to see if an accident was reported. This could reveal what happened recently and history for the car.
Assure you have well charged battery with proper voltage. Get a scanner (or borrow) and record all the codes you find. Then clear all codes that you can and start/ drive to see if codes return. If they don't return, it may have been low voltage. But codes may not be set for many miles.
Carefully consider you may have bought a lemon and get what ever money you can as it is.

Funnily enough i had done quite a bit of research on the car before i took my car to the first mechanic. Already had planned drain and fill as well as pcv oil trap replacement. Was also planning on doing tensioner/accessory belt/idler. The transmission needing replacement first diagnosis shocked me and i kind of panicked and took it to tanner motors as they used to be a volvo dealership. There is evidence of an accident at the front passenger side underneath and for sure ac compressor needs to be replaced. I just need someone to tell me exactly why im getting these insane electrical codes (besides the crash stuff). i feel like they should have gotten closer to a diagnosis then just saying "spend 900 on software to diagnose further". For the transmission, do a drain and refill with maybe an ATF oil sample analysis. If the oil looks and smells bad do several drain and refills at about 100 mile intervals.
If it shifts OK, it probable is OK. But fresh ATF will help the trans life.

I did some more digging into the VIDA results over the weekend and also spoke with a couple of other mechanics about what was found Friday.
After going back through everything, I’m concerned that the electrical/communication side of the diagnostic wasn’t fully worked through before the software reloads were recommended. Most of the attention Friday seemed to go toward the crash/accident-related codes, but there’s also a battery-voltage code, multiple module input-power codes, and both the TCM and BCM have lost-communication-with-ECM codes.
I also noticed that TCM-U210000 was red in VIDA, while many of the other power/communication codes were yellow, so I’d really like to establish what is actually recurring before doing the software reloads.
Could you guys check:
The battery condition and VIDA’s Quick Test of Alternator Function, rather than relying on the voltage reading alone
The actual VIDA Network view/page, to make sure all the modules are communicating normally and VIDA isn’t showing any network issues
The Extended Attributes on TCM-U210000 and the power/communication codes, to see if the first occurrence, counters, frozen values, or other history give any useful information or show that some of these happened together
As part of Monday’s recheck, clear the relevant non-SRS module DTCs through VIDA and then rescan the car after it’s been run to see exactly which faults return — especially whether TCM-U210000 comes back
We had previously cleared the generic OBD codes, but I’d specifically like the Volvo module faults cleared and retested through VIDA so we can establish what is actually recurring.
I mainly want to make sure the battery/power/network possibilities have actually been ruled out before I authorize almost $900 in software reloads.
I appreciate you guys taking another look at it Monday. I understand that if this eventually requires deeper electrical tracing that can mean additional diagnostic labor, but I’d like to understand what the original diagnostic has actually ruled out before putting more money into it.
