Hy Buddies,

In France, we have the possibility to feed our fuel tank with Bio fuel (agrofuel). 850 are able to use it. To do that, i need to replace injectors by some giving 30 % fuel more, the lambda and ECU regulate the mix. Does someone has a board with the the flow rate injectors ? From what was explained to me, i so need injectors distributing 30 % fuel more. The injectors board could help me to find right ones from Volvo, may be S60s.

For a full tank, the gain would be around 100 $ less each time.

Thanks to those who will help me on that demand.

I am curious, what information showed biofuel to be a bad idea?

In fact, the fuel known as E85 is “drier” and more corrosive than unleaded 95. Since our gas-powered vehicles are about thirty years old, the valve seats will fail due to 30 years of wear and tear, the various hoses will corrode more quickly unless they’re replaced as well, and this fuel will strip the engine, eventually clogging the fuel filter (which, you might say, is the lesser of two evils). Since it requires 30% more fuel to run, the fuel pump will need to be replaced. That adds up to a lot of expenses. It’s better to find an 850 FLEXFUEL—at least then you’re on the safe side.
The final argument is that, in the event of an accident, the car won’t be deemed compliant with the manufacturer’s standards. And if anyone gets hurt… If I were alone, I’d take the risk. But I also have my partner and my two children.

That said, if we plan for all these changes, it’ll work out just fine.

Manov, Thanks for the explanation. Because of these problems, I do not use the commonly available in the US E10 fuel.

Butanol would be a better fuel for a 850 then Ethanol. Chemical, Butanol is close enough to gasoline that it is considered a direct drop in replacement for gasoline. Butanol does not have the issues that Ethanol has in a Gasoline engine. Butanol is a better fuel but Ethanol is cheaper to produce per gallon. However the price of Butanol could be 150% that of Ethanol and the consumer side economics would still be better. Good luck getting a large section of the population to comprehend that.

Why Butanol is Actually Better as a Fuel

1. Higher Energy Content: Butanol has about 1.5 times the volumetric energy content of ethanol, meaning better fuel economy and fewer fill-ups.

2. Water Resistance: Butanol does not absorb water easily (it is hydrophobic), meaning it will not separate from gasoline in storage or cause phase-separation issues.

3. Pipeline Safe: Because it does not mix with water, butanol can be shipped directly through standard petroleum pipelines instead of requiring truck or rail transport.

4. Engine Friendly: Butanol is less corrosive and can be blended at higher percentages (or used pure) in standard internal combustion engines without modification.

Dont't do it. E85 is awesome for a high power build if the whole system is prepared for it. Stick with as little Ethanol as possible. in Austria most fuel is E10 (10% ethanol mixed among the fuel) by now, but car enthusiasts will try to stick with E5 whenever possible as it has less corrosion and degrading problems. unfortunately E5 is the best we can get.
