Hello. I need the oil cooler pipe, part #30637964, for 2006 Volvo s40i. Connects to oil cooler.

Hi Paul.

I am being confused by the Volvo part numbering system on line. When I enter tha part number you posted, it comes up but as not currently available. However, when you click on the parts diagram below the part drawing for part #18 it gives a different part number? Perhaps the part has been superseded? However it is strange.

I have replaced a thermostat on a T5 AWD V50 (06) but can't recall the pipe. Is it on the front or back of the engine? What so I need to watch out for that caused the failure of your original part?

Another suggestion may be to call Erie Vo-Vo and see if they can produce the part for you from their parts cars.

Thank you for replying. Correct, that part is no longer available OEM or by Volvo, as a new part. I was hoping that a junkyard or used parts dealer would see this and realize that there are many Volvos from that era that contained that part and it would fit my 2006 s40, if in good shape. I see what you're saying about that diagram, I don't know what those numbers refer to. That is the part, #18 in that diagram.
Failure came on me unawares, suddenly. That's to say that there was no leaking of coolant until pipe corroded through completely. The oil coolant pipe connects to the U-shaped pipe that is connected to one of the openings in the oil cooler box. It is not visible if you have the hood up and are looking at engine. As to why there is that level of corrosion, it's a mystery- those parts are not exposed to the outside. There's a lot of rock salt and long winters here, but that would've been protected from anything coming up from the road. Also, there is no corrosion on adjacent parts. I've called Erie Vo-Vo and they say no. It's possible that they have these other years and models that contain the part; when I called them I was unaware that it was installed on such a wide range. I will call them back. It could be that their database and others I've called don't list it by correct parts number. Otherwise, all these Volvos are out there from thatera- what happened to all those oil coolant pipes?

It might be worth talking to the parts guys at Volvo. I had good help in the past from the guys at Tasca. Ask them about your part number and why the parts diagrams have the alternate part number. Volvo are terrible for collapsing their part systems where they have duplicate parts and make errors in not updating all the old part numbers.

I might be at the junkyard in the next couple of days. There is a 06 S40 NA their. I'll see if the engine is in there and if the part is there.

Can't guarantee, but if I can I'll grab it for you.

I've spoken with parts guy at a Volvo dealership. He confirms part has been discontinued, has not been superseded. I don't know much about what Volvo has changed into, but they used to portray themselves as environmentally conscious- Volvo for Life was their slogan. I'm with you, guys. So I have to junk my car because you don't make a $60 pipe that was a part of every model from 2004-2012?
