I'm looking to replace the liftgate (just the upper section of the tailgate) on my XC90. The actual body is cracked on both sides of the window and up through the mount-point for the left support strut. We had to remove the strut because it no longer stays in, which means now the hatch doesn't stay up at all.
Unfortunately, I can't find a good used replacement for the liftgate. I've searched eBay and as many junkyards as I could find in my state, but I've found very few XC90s and none that are 2009-2014 (2009 seems to be a facelift year).
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on sourcing something like this.
Also, is it best to buy a lift-gate of the same color fully assembled with the window, trim, latch, etc. OR should I look for just the shell, possibly get it painted, and re-use all the other parts? The latter seems like a much bigger project (but maybe easier to find?).

You don't specify what color you have or what state you are in, so that handicaps folks who might have specific knowledge.
I'm in the bay area of California and there are well over a dozen XC90s in wrecking yards within about an hour's drive just now for example.
I believe other than the lettering, any tailgate 2003-2014 should fit and function fine.

Good thought, thank you for the suggestion. It's a white 2010 XC90 in Arizona.
Interestingly, I talked to a local body shop and they could order a used hatch but said they couldn't order a specific color. If they happened to get a white one, they could install it as is, otherwise I'd be looking at getting it painted. Then they came back and said that their supplier told them they have no used white ones available in the region, so this doesn't seem like the best option.
I guess I could consider putting on an older one, though I did read that maybe the wiring harness wouldn't match.

Please let me know if there's anything else that would be helpful to know.
