Where does this HVAC lever go? heater core replacement?

I'm working on a heater core replacement on a 2004 XC70. Finally got the heater core out but in the process this small motor had to come out, and the bracket broke off. Off the top of your head, what does this bracket control? Is it essential? If I don't worry too much about replacing it, will it just be that the heat will always be on in the footwell? For what it's worth, the air conditioning doesn't work in the car anymore and it's kid transportation so quirks are okay. I can't find a relevant layout diagram in the charm manual.

That “arm” connects the motor to one of the blend door shafts. You really didn’t have to remove the motor. Before you try to pull the core out you can turn on the ignition (don’t start the engine!!) and then call for max heat on the drivers side(assuming LH drive). The motor should drive the arm out of the way of the core so that it can slide out.

The dealer sells those control arms.

You and a million other people have broken that arm before they figure out how to move it out of the way - including yours truly.

I had to remove the motor to get the pin out that holds the heater core pipe in place. Couldn't figure out any other way to do it. The brake light switch also had to come out to remove the heater core - I was surprised the charm manual didn't mention that.

Yes, the brake pedal switch is an interesting thing. There’s a YouTube video that explains how to manipulate it - you may have seen it.
