Wanna talk Absurd?matthew1 wrote: 01 Nov 2020, 19:32 I found this very interesting:
That 740T in the Car & Driver review weighed a little less than 3000 lbs. 2960 lbs if memory serves. It made 160 HP, which gave it not-embarassing 0-60 times of 7.9 seconds.
2960 lbs, dear friends, is what cars should weigh.
Today cars are blindingly heavy, requiring gigantic engines. For instance, the 2020 Mercedes S Class weighs 4885 lbs. That's not an SUV. SUVs are typically far heavier than cars. (My 2017 VW wagon weighs around 3400 pounds, and it's a fairly small car.)
So not only do these big Mercedes and other chunky sedans need twin-turbo V8s and the like, they need monster tires to keep that 2.5 tons going where it's supposed to go.
It's all completely absurd.
This a different kind of absurd… The GOOD kind.
Just wish I could afford to put one of these in my garage!
