So we're working on my sons '03 V70XC which had a coolant leak from one of the coolant plugs on the 14T turbo. We were just going to tap and plug the port, but when we removed the turbo, we found a lot of axial play, so it looks to be a lost cause.
Now we have a 13T in good shape out of a '02 V70XC. Question is whether there will be any issues switching out from the 14T to the 13T.
And as a side question; what is the syringe in the turbo gasket kit for ?
Thanks guys. I'm just not familiar with the P2 platform.

Going 14T to 13T will be a problem, a software tune is needed. 13T as is will be producing more boost than ECU expects. You may better try a CHRA replacement in your old 14T if everything else looks to be alright.
No idea about the syringe.

The syringe will be to pre-fill the turbo with oil so it doesn't start dry.

Thanks vtl. I thought that we might be moving in the other direction, that is that the 13T would be smaller and be making less boost than the 14T. So will the 13T work, just not to its full potential without a tune, or will it over boost and possibly hurt the engine ?
And thanks Neil. Now I'm worried about the other times I've installed the turbos without pre-oiling. Knowledge is better late than never.

It is more of TD04HL vs TD04L than 13T vs 14T.Sveedy wrote: 13 Sep 2026, 17:21 Thanks vtl. That makes sense. So do you know if any 14T TDO4L from the early '00's work, or are there variants between models ?
And if a tune is going to be needed, is there a preferred upgrade from the 14T instead of the 13T ?
Thanks for your input on this !

You may want a new CHRA in any case. In any old used turbo.Sveedy wrote: 13 Sep 2026, 18:36 That makes sense. So do you know if any 14T TDO4L from the early '00's work, or are there variants between models ?

TD04HL-16T is usually a go to upgrade. Sometimes paired with green injectors. And next thing you'd want is a 3" downpipe.

Will any 14T work ?
And last question (I hope) - any recommendations for tuning other than IPD ? I used VAST for my 850, but he doesn't do ME7. And I've heard varying opinions about Hilton.

Found a new replacement CHRA for -$100, so that looks to be the best solution for now.
But the 16T etc would be a hoot !
Thanks again vtl !
