Hello everyone, I recently had the right front axle replaced on my vehicle on my 2016 XC90 (T6 Momentum) and a couple of weeks later the AWD warning light is on. I had the code scanned and they are telling me that the transmission fluid should have been replaced during the repair and there is no transmission fluid in the vehicle. Does this make sense to anyone? Is replacing transmission fluid part of the axle repair?
Thanks,
Susan

Hi Susan. I would take it to a dealer or indie Volvo shop and have them add transmission fluid, noting how much they add.
There is no transmission fluid dipstick on these and DIY involves jacking the XC90 up (level) while running and adding until it doesn't drip out of the transmission check hole.
Replacing axles usually involves some fluid leak, but it's not that much. In your case it could have been just enough to trigger that code.

Thank you so much! I suspected as much but wanted to verify.matthew1 wrote: 13 Sep 2026, 10:17 Hi Susan. I would take it to a dealer or indie Volvo shop and have them add transmission fluid, noting how much they add.
