2012 XC90 3.2 AWD 162K miles. I am owner for just over 1 year w/o any major issues until.......
Murphys law - This month it's due for PA inspection (had it scheduled for yesterday). Tuesday last I get CEL with codes in topic title.
No drivability issues present so I clear the codes and next day they both return.
Hoping for a little luck I clear again on Thursday before inspection and attempt to drive enough to reset all OBD readiness monitors prior to the inspection (fail to ready complete on 3 monitors and my scanner says EVAP codes "pending")
I don't know what that means exactly ??
Yesterday I removed EVAP purge valve and confirmed functional (can't blow thru it until 12v supplied where I hear click and can blow thru)
Last year I did repair PCV by replacing torn diaphragm under PCV "box"
When I start the vehicle I hear a repetitive (every 5 seconds or so lasting 1 second) sound (not a whistle but low pitch reverberating).
Sound is coming from diaphragm of PCV area.
When I pull oil fill cap or dipstick there is substantial rpm change and a fairly strong vacuum at the cap and dipstick.
I removed the PVC box and confirmed the diaphragm is in good shape.
What would cause such strong vacuum at the oil fill cap ??
My plan is to remove the vapor leak detection pump above/behind the spare tire and see if it is functional (can i bench test this component) ?
Any advisement appreciated.
Maybe replace the entire PCV box and diaphragm unit ??
EVAP code(s) P043E and P2402

It is the EVAP pump not the EVAP purge valve. Shorted wiring or shorted pump.
