'07 V70 - Maintenance I wish I'd done at 100K miles

Hello All,

Following might be helpful to folks with P2 - mine's '07 V70 145K

Over the decade I've spent LOTS of time mis-diagnosing (and ultimately diagnosing) issues with this car that - in the end - turned out to be standard maintenance items. Following are items i wish I'd replaced - or at least paid attention to - before they went bad. Saving lots of headache:

Engine torque mounts - Fresh mounts smooth out vibrations you never knew you had. Not pricey.

Front coil springs - Spring snapped abruptly jagged end into tire. Scary. Replaced both obviously.

Fuel rail sensor - Failure prone c. 100K i've heard. Not pricey or hard to replace.

Front ball joints - Required a painful year of mis-diagnoses to get to the bottom of random clunking.
Even dealer mis-diagnosed it. Finally replaced them, talk about standard maintenance...

Front struts and spring seats - One spring seat blew at 100K. Replaced front struts and seats. Seemed early, but at 145K now front end is 100%.

Finally, if you get the crazy-making "Brake/Engine system service required" message - check for shorts. I replaced a flickering $5 headlamp bulb. Messages gone!

Have you done the recommended 50k mile transmission flushes, so you are nearing the 3rd one?

Then there are those with the AWD cars where the angle gear, rear diff and most importantly the Haldex never get looked at.

Where is this located?

Flushed trans fluid at 100K and have been advised not to do it again barring the unusual.

Fuel rail is a steel tube near top of engine with a Schraeder type valve - like a bike tire valve - at one end for releasing pressure. Sensor is attached to one end of the ‘rail’

Another one is the parking brake expander block. I recently had to replace this part in both the 2007 V70 and the Ti 2007 S60 because the center pivot had rusted and was binding. The brakes weren't releasing correctly. I need to be proactive and replace the other side before the salt roads create more failures.

The older Volvos have had problems with rust inside the parking brake cables but all the 2007 Volvos have been good for the cables.

Sending out the fuel injectors for ultrasonic cleaning has helped improve Volvo engine smoothness and a small fuel economy increase back to the factory economy rating. The before data for injector flow was worse than expected and all the injectors had identical flow after cleaning and re-test.
