Center console light is out 1995 940 Automatic Transmission
Center console light is out 1995 940 Automatic Transmission
As usual, I'm hoping to avoid taking this in to the Dealer....but the light that lights up the center console so you can tell if you are in Drive, Park, or Reverse, etc......is not working. It was working fine until I had my Automatic stick shift plastic/rubber piece replaced....at the Dealer, of course! However, I didn't discover it for a couple of days and don't feel like driving the 30 miles to the dealer to complain! Any help out there would be appreciated as always!

If anything like my 240, the center console cover is held down with a couple of screws near the front, then it just lifts off and you'll see the light in there in a little enclosure. It pops out rather easily. Do all of this in front of a auto parts store (like Auto Zone) then you can run in with the bulb and be sure to get the right one.

1. Remove ashtray.
2. Remove panel below ashtray to expose fuses (may have to put the gear selector in Reverse or Drive (make sure your parking brake is on or the wheels are stopped). Another option is to have your car on a flat surface so it doesn't roll away (still use the brake of course).
3. There maybe two screws on the front and perhaps a clip that holds the piece together (making sure you don't lose any of them).
4. The cover should come off - I believe you can slide it back towards the center console - thereby getting it by the gear selector.
5. Look for selector quadrant and I believe you can pull it up. The bulb and holder will be obvious. You may be lucky and perhaps they forgot to push it back into place since those bulbs seem to last forever.
