Help! 1993 850 GLT Won't Start

Post by itsdug »

I'm at a loss here. I've read most of the similar threads here, but can't figutre out my problem.

Car has always started without any problems. Drove it to the grocery, came out 10 minutes later it won't start. Plenty of cranking power but just won't catch.

Checked the fuses. All good.

Getting spark from the coil.

Checked the fuel pump relay. It clicks with ignition in #2 position.

Changed Fuel Pump and Filter. Still no luck.

I've tried the 5 minute cranking method. Holding down the peddle with key turned as well.

What am I missing? How do you test/check cam sensor?

Thanks for any advice and or help.

Update:

I have no fuel at the rail. When I push in on the Shrader valve there's nothing there. This is with the key in the #2 position.

Even though I get a clicking sound from the relay, could it be going bad?

Again, new fuel pump, filter and getting spark. What am I missing?

Btw, car has 170K miles.

Many thanks.

Just jumper the relay. Pull it out (#103). On the bottom there are pin numbers molded into the plastic next to each of the pins. Jumper the socket positions associated with pins 15 and 87. If the pump is working OK it should pressurize and start.

No luck. I double checked the following:

Spark
Fuel pump kicks in
I hear the relay click

Still no fuel @ the rail.

If it helps, I had fuel @ the rail before installing the new fuel pump. I used the Shrader valve to relieve the pressure.

Thanks.

While it would be unusual I suppose it is possible that, even though the pump motor is running, it isn't pumping fuel. Did you add an insert or did you replace the entire assembly?

With no fuel at the rail it will never run.

I added an insert and gasket only. The rest was in good shape. Is there a way to test? Thanks.

I pulled the fuel line off the front side of fuel filter, and cranked the car over. No fuel came out. Fuel guage says 1/2 tank. What to do?!

Yank the assembly out again and make sure all of the lines are still hooked up. Beyond that I would say it is defective out of the box. Do you still have your old one?
