How/When to get a VIN#

Sorry if this question was already asked but I can not find any answers.

How do I get the VIN# from the dealer? When should they be able to tell me?

Background, ordered a new Volvo, info is that Car is on ship to North America but beside that no more information just that it can take up to 8 weeks on the ship. Read in a thread about tracking your shipment with the VIN#.

Any help is much appreciated.

Find Yannis and ask him. I know that's the OSD forum but he works for a dealer and is very good about giving out information about how things are done.

Thanks. I actually did that...

So far I am not sure what is possible or not... input is to ask them to run a CIS report or use VRC2...
