Broken door check information needed

Post by vroomvolvo850 »

The passenger side door on my volvo makes a loud popping noise. I have looked around for anything on fixing the door "check" but havent found any posts. If someone has details on how to replace this please let me know. THinks in advance!

There are a couple of things you should look for. The door check itself can break. It is a PITA to replace since you need to strip off the interior door panel but it can be done by a mere mortal with no real special tools. When the door check pops it is often a problem where the mount has pulled out of the A pillar. That is an even bigger PITA since it really needs to be welded and it is directly next to the wiring harness to the door.

Search the repair database - we have several writeups on the subject and scroll back over the last couple of weeks in the forum. We had one member that did a "ghetto" repair to his that may or may not hold up but it required no welding.

There are a number of posts on fixing the door "pop". This is one of the older ones that explains the problem and shows how to fix it without welding.

There was a post on MVS about 2 weeks ago along the same line. I have the problem but haven't fixed it yet. I tried to find a welding shop that would tackle it but no one wants to do a small job like this.

WAIT! ...sometimes the big torx bolt is just a little loose and causes the same popping noise. Might check that first.
