I haven't heard or experienced one way or another if it would trip the light, but I'd be surprised.

ive been putting together my volvo and got check engine light. i looked in there and on previous recommendations, i decided to buy the Equus Innova 3100. i went to the local kragen auto parts and bougjht it for 179.00. when i got home, i decided to look at the kragen site as they sometimes have sales. well, they sure were on sale. the are currently 99.00 as of 01-29-2006. this is a hugh discount so i went back to get a price adjustment. when i get there, the person at the counter also says there is a rebate for $30.00. could this be true? that would only put it a 70.00. well, the rebate ended yesterday but i got a good price for it so, if you guys are still loooking for a obdII, go to the kragen website, print the item and go to store.
thanks

You got a steal on that code reader and it will serve you well. I don't leave home without it. Actually, I find myself helping others with their cars more than using it on mine, but that's all good too!

I have a 99 S70 and I've had the same problem with the service light in combination with the check engine light. Normally, when it's come in, it will be right after I start the car and it will go off after a minute or so everytime. I have been able to reset it in the past. Now, it's back on and I can't get it to come off with the countless different procedures that are out there. I have brought it to my Volvo guy and the computer has no codes and we are now both scratching our heads. Any thoughts?

Welcome to MVS.
If I recall correctly, before the key is even inserted, push the trip reset button and keep holding it in, then put the key in and to position 2 while still holding the trip reset button and it should eventually start flashing and then the service light will go off. If that doesn't work then your car is most likely possessed.

Well, believe it or not, after some serious excorsising
, I got it. I have to actually hold the reset button, go to I, then II and wait for the flash. Once it flashed, I released the button, turned off the car, and then started it......and viola. After all the things I've done with my car lately, I feel invicible right now

I know this is an old thread, but there has got to be someone out there that knows the code that a programmable OBDII scanner could send to reset the service light.
The reset tools being sold for that solo purpose are pre-programmed with that code.
The computer based OBD software that is mentioned earlier in this thread obviously has that code in it somewhere.
I have a scan tool like the one that IPD sells that is supposed to be able to be programmed with custom codes to send to the OBD system. I would assume you should be able to enter this code into the tool and use it for resetting the service light. IPD claims you can't do this, but IPD also sells a reset tool for big bucks, so it is not in their interest to hand out this code to anyone.
Am I crazy? I hope not. It just seems there should be an easier, cheaper way to reset that damn light!
Cheers!
Greg
