Code Conversions

Post by alandviv »

I know the moderators are working on a code conversion table to cross reference with... by any chance has anyone come across the conversion for code P0500. Volvo says that's not one of their codes, it's a Snap On code, and they know nothing about it. (Likely story)
Thanks,
Viv

P0500 is a generic code read by a scanner rather than the Volvo diagnostic equipment.

On your car it equates to the Volvo code EFI-311 which is 'speedometer faulty signal permanent or intermittent'.

Possible causes are:
Short circuit to earth (ground) or supply voltage in the signal cable.
Open circuit in the signal cable.
Contact resistance in the terminals.
Defective speedometer.
Fault in the circuit between the ABS module and the instrument panel.

On other makes of car it is simply stated as "Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction". That is where I would start.
