I know this is an old thread but I wanted to post my solution to this problem.
I have a 1998 s70 t5(auto) I've also been chasing the dreaded p0500... Well I had all the classic symptoms of a bad abs module- Abs, tracs constantly on speedometer randomly dropping to 0. Well It turns out it was not my abs module or a wheel speed sensor. My problem was coming from the vehicle speed sensor on top of the transmission! Long story short- I ended up having my transmission replaced a couple days ago with used one(60k) Let me tell you this... No more abs light, or trac light and my speedometer is spot on! Now I'm not saying replace your tranny fellas but I am telling you to take a look at the VSS on your tranny. I still can't understand why the VSS was causing the abs and tracs light to stay on but it appears that was my problem.
Happy driving!
