Can you read off the model number stamped on the radio itself? It would help us know if this is something you can tackle yourself or if this is a later model radio that would take the dealer or someone else. The other, I'm not sure about either- just not used acquainted with the S80.

I doubt if it's due to the bulbs being burned out. It is very unlikely that all those bulbs would burn out at the same time. More likely is a bad fuse or a corroded or loose connector. I'll check my VADIS and see if I can find anything. Have you tried turning up the dash light dimmer knob?

It looks like the instrument lights are fed by fuses 23, 32 and 37 in the fuse block in the lefthand end of the dashboard. I'd recheck those. You open the driver's door, then remove a plastic cover from the end of the dashboard (just pull on it) and the fuses will be visible.

I know nothing about the HU-611 bulb replacement...and know of no documented fix for your unit. If it was an SC unit (SC-816 for instance), the fix is well documented. That said, this is the first I've heard of an HU-xxx unit needing bulbs so do what vegas said and see if you figure your problem out. I too doubt it's really the bulbs.

I'm not sure what you're going to do, but let me recommend you disconnect the car battery for a 20 minutes or so before you pull the radio out (if that's what you're up to) because otherwise you could set an SRS light which only the dealer can turn off (and you'll have to pay them for this). Good luck and let us know what you find.

To remove the radio it is not really necessary to disconnect the battery negative lead, but it is advisable. The removal procedure simply calls for the ignition to be switched 'Off' and the key removed to prevent accidental operation. A 3 minute waiting period is then called for.

Put the gear selector in the rear most position then remove the panel around the gear lever by prising out the rear edge with a weather strip tool. If you don't have a weather strip tool then use a small screwdriver after taping the edge of the panel to avoid scratching it.

You will see two screws on the lower edge of the environment control panel. Remove them.

The environment control panel and the radio are joined with mounting hooks. To remove the environment control panel gently angle it outwards so that you can insert two fingers behind it. At the same time pull the panel down keeping the same angle. The panel is securely fastened so some force is required to remove it. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel.

Remove the two screws now exposed and remove the radio.

Before replacing the radio the CD player has to be reset and this is best done now. Hold the radio at the same angle as it would be in the dash, about 15 - 20 degrees. Switch on the ignition. Disconnect the green connector from the radio and wait 5 seconds. Reconnect the green connector and the CD player has been reset. Wait until there is no noise from the CD mechanism and disconnect the wiring. Switch off the ignition and remove the key.

Unfortunately, like the others, I have no idea how the bulbs are replaced but you should be able to see the way with the radio out.

The bulbs in the environment control panel are easy to replace as they are simply a twist and pull on the bulb holder. If any of the switch lights is not working it requires replacement of the switch.

Installing the radio requires it to be held at the same angle as before. Connect the wiring harness and replace the radio pushing it up until the screws can be inserted.

When removing the environment control panel it is possible that some of the hooks may have broken off. Use 3.5mm thick double sided adhesive tape in place of the hooks. This will serve to secure the unit with the two screws.

Bill.
