I have a 99 S80 T6 and have noticed while in neutral/park the engine has a fluctuating idle (+/- 500 rpm) at times. I didn’t find a pattern yet but I suspect it only happens when the outside temperature drops since I only notice it in the morning and a few times late at night. Could this be the ECU? Did anyone have the same issue and if so what was the fix?
Some history about the car:
I know there are a lot of horror stories about this year and model. I feel the car has had it’s share of issues however not to the extent of other that I have read about. The biggest issues were the tranny needed to be replaced before 13K miles and the software was reinstalled (all under warranty). The ball joints, steering rod ends and ABS module were replaced around 70K (not cheap). Other than that the car has need fun to own.

Sounds like the idle control valve. I had the same problem. I brought it to a carb expert who flushed the system. No problems since

Can I ask how much of a big bill it was? My 2000 s80 is doing the same thing.. Kinda does a surge when at a red light and I can see the head lights surge also.
