hi,

I had crash with another car, the whole impact was in the front right wheel, the impact was so hard that I needed to call a tow truck... well the whole afternoon I was dismantling the front of the car, I took off the bumper, part of the right side of the car, to see the damage... the shock adsorber is twisted completely but I could not take it out of the car, I will have to look for a mechanic to be able to take out the piece of the car.

what more could be damage?
thanks
Oscar

subframe
axle
hub/bearing
wheel (rim)
lower control arm
sway bar and/or links
bushings

You basically have to take an inventory of everything in the impact zone and inspect each very carefully.

In the U.S., we would call that car totaled.

A couple of weeks ago, I came out from my place of employment to find someone had run into my back door...it was all caved in. Luckily, the person who did this left a note with her phone number on my windshield. Her insurance is paying. At first we thought that the B-post was also damaged as I could not open my driver's door. However, if I open the rear door first, I can get it open. Apparently the B-post is not damaged. Still $1650 for the settlement. If the B-post was damaged (even a little) total settlement would have been $3150...enough for them to say my car was totaled. then they would write me a check for that amount and haul my car off. Of course, this doesn't begin to pay for all the work I've done on this car including ECU upgrades, suspension mods, etc. I'm getting a used door with the same paint code (I hate repainted Volvo's) to fix this issue- I'm lucky. The only real trouble I feel I'll have is to take the old pin stripe off and put a new one on (both sides, so they'll match). I'm very lucky that the B-post was not damaged. It's just amazing that a somewhat small wreck on a very nice 10 year old car that I would much rather have than most new cars out there would take very little be considered totaled.

Good luck with the repairs- guess things work a little differently down there in Costa Rica.

The history here is not so far than in the US... A TOYOTA is the responsable for this TRAGEDY!! I'm almost done with the repair in my car (only the mechanical part is done), I'm waiting for the bodywork is finished to assembly again the car and take it to the "measure bank" (i don't know the exact word in english) to see if the chassis was twisted or not... I'm praying for that it is not my case!...

Nice job on that suspension repair.

Suggestion: start a new thread with the question about your dad's car. It's a good question, but will be missed if it's buried in the discussion here.

I don't know how you guys roll down there, but that's one damn nice garage floor. I can only imagine what the rest of it looks like.
