Finally got around to reading the codes on my sisters 44o si. 1.8 litre
The LED as returned 121 and 223.
121 I think is the air pressure sensor,223 the idle control valve.
Question is where is the air pressure sensor located? ,there is no unit on the intake elbow as with the multi point systems

I don't know a thing about your sister's car but looking it up on VADIS, it sure is nice looking! Do you have any pictures to share? VADIS (when switched to European models- I'm in the U.S.) shows an "intake load pressure sensor" on the throttle body. I'm assuming this is the same thing as an air pressure sensor. It is #2 in the diagram below:

1-2-1 is the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, signal error.
Possible causes are wiring; vacuum hose split/blocked or the sensor itself.
To check the MAP sensor: 2-2-3 on the single point injection is the Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator, signal error/signal absent.
Possible causes are wiring short or open circuit.
To check the ISC actuator: MIJ - lots of 440 pictures at:
http://www.volvogallery.org.uk/showgallery.php?cat=3191
They were popular cars over here and there are still many of them on the road. My neighbour has a '95 1.9 turbo diesel in immaculate condition which can still return 53mpg on a motorway run at 70mph. (That is the legal speed limit and I think he is frightened to say that he is usually in excess of this.)
Bill.

If you have more power then the MAP sensor was probably iffy.
Check the Engine Control relay and the ECM:
