I need to replace the engine on our V70 and hopefully someone can shed some light, I believe that the engine has to be removed from the bottom but I have a few questions for someone that knows the procedure.
* It's easier to remove the engine and transmission together?
* Is the engine mounted into the subframe and everything comes down?
* Do you first remove the subframe, then separate the engine from the transmission and lower the engine by itself?
Thank you in advance for your comments,
Gilles

I think you're going to find that lifting it out is actually easier...you'll need an engine lift...btw, the engine and transmission do come out together and the hood will release to be at 90degrees, making this job easier.

MadeInJapan; Thanks for the great news..! I do have an engine hoist.MadeInJapan wrote:I think you're going to find that lifting it out is actually easier...you'll need an engine lift...btw, the engine and transmission do come out together and the hood will release to be at 90degrees, making this job easier.
Is there anything unusual or special? If possible, I would like to remove the AC compresor from the engine to avoid messing with the AC lines. Does the transmission have an independent harness? Do you have to disasemble the drive shafts or just remove the big nut from the spindle and slid them off the hub? How about at the transmission end?
Sorry for all the questions but I don't have a shop manual
Thanks again, Gilles

Well, I spoke too soon. On the older FWD's I would do it from above, but VADIS shows from below. I hope that this helps you:

MadeInJapan; Thanks for the PDF, it clearly shows the reason on why you should be using a lift to replace the engine...MadeInJapan wrote:Well, I spoke too soon. On the older FWD's I would do it from above, but VADIS shows from below. I hope that this helps you:
By any chance do you have the manual that shows the head replacing procedure? (my other option)

Well, you do need a lift, but it still comes out the bottom.
Yes, I was able to get the cylinder head gasket r&r off of VADIS....hope this helps you out: Thought you might need the tightening torques too:
