Too much gas during start up.

Hello, after working on my 1995 Volvo 850 turbo for two weeks I think I got down to the proper diagnosis.The car is flooding when you start it up.Once the car is running, it runs perfect, good boost and good idle. If it doesnt catch right away, I pull out the fuel pump fuse, crank it, it catches and I can put the fuel pump fuse back right away, and it'll run like nothing happened.The car has 202,000 miles on it , and with the no start condition I was able to give it some TLC by replacing plugs rotor etc. I'm going to take it to the dealer to replace the timing belt next week, as I want to get more miles out this great, but sometimes frustrating car. I would like to resolve this flooding issue before I take it to them to help keep the cost down. Does this syndrome sound familiar to anyone, and if so, is there something I may be able to fix before I take it in. Thanks for any help.

I would start by removing the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator and see if you have fuel in the vacuum line.

The diaphragm in the regulator can fail and it winds up dumping raw gas into the intake manifold.

Thanks, for that. I read about that last night, but I didn' see it on the fuel line towards the fuel rail.Is that where its at.

Ok, found diagram on this site.... I think I've had that fuel rail cover off before.Dont I lose pressure and pull an injector out by taking the cover off. I think I had to replace an O ring once.

You can get to it without removing the fuel rail...look and reach under the fuel rail, standing next to the passenger side door (facing the front of the car).

I pulled the hose off at the point where it goes into the intake,by the throttle body, and didnt see any gas or moisture really,... still kinda baffled

Pull it off at the fuel regulator...where you pulled it off, it's probably emptied into the intake already (the hose has cleared).

I tried to start it,cranked and cranked but hose right off of the regulator was dry.Tried to catch, im sure its flooded again as I started with pump fuse removed,it ran for 7 seconds until it burned all the gas out.Put the fuse in and it started right away. And like I mentioned it ran perfect.I'll try any other recommendations. Thanks

you could have a leaky injector,pull the rail with injectors and remove the fuse for injectors, crank the car and see if one of the injectors is spraying. with the injector fuse out they should not operate

ooh wait there may not be an injector fuse with that vehicle sorry
