Does anyone know how much it will run my to have the knuckle joint replaced behind the firewall. Parts? Labor? I have a local volvo guy that only runs about 45-50 an hour.

thanks

:?: Why don't you ask your guy. If he's doing the work, it doesn't really matter what anybody else charges. It's between you and him. he gives you a price and you agree to it or not. Looks like his hourly rate is less than half of what shops charge around here. If he knows what he's doing, that may be a good price.

Vadis shows the part number as 3546684. Swedishautoparts.com shows the part price at - gulp - $290.15.

I think I'm looking at a junk yard for that money.

I have seen many versions of the labor involved. One variation is to drop the subframe and the other is to remove the steering column. Neither one sounds like fun.

Looked up the number
So, you're talking about the steering knuckle from the wheel...before it enters the firewall (in the cabin). Hmm, yeah, I'd go junk yard too. Sometimes I see the whole section (all the way up to the steering column and including the wheel) on eBay. Why do you think it's bad? If it's squeaking and making noise down there, it's usually the gator at the firewall. I changed mine out a couple of years ago as it was driving me nuts...it was not the knuckle. The new design of the gator that includes a bearing gear in it solved my ills.
