Codes for stereo reset

Post by jbreck »

Hello,

I recently bought a 1994 Volvo 850. I disconnected the battery to clean and now the stereo is asking for codes? Can you offer me any info on this?

If not there, pull your radio out- some people write it on the top of the radio with a sharpie. Otherwise, if you call your dealer with your VIN# they should give you the code for free and it should work unless someone has replaced this radio in your car. If that happens, there is still a way to get the code but it will require writing ALL of the numbers down on the back of your radio and then cross-referencing these at the dealer.

I just bought one off ebay because mine wasn't working. The code was missing so I got a bargain. £10.00 + postage. I phoned local Volvo dealer and gave him the serial numbers on the unit. Within a matter of minutes he'd found the code although I did have to go through the procedure of leaving it turned on with the key in for two hours to reset it.

If you turn your radio on and don't have the code it should say "Code." You have 3 attempts to put the right code in. If you don't have it right, on the third attempt it will display "OFF." In the "OFF" position, you do have to leave the radio on continuously for it to say "CODE" again for it to be ready to accept the code. My suggestion is that if you put in the 4 digit number and it doesn't work the first time, don't continue to try it. If it didn't work the first time, it's not going to work a second or third time. Try to avoid going into "OFF."
