Paint oxidation on hood

Post by lee238004 »

Hello guys I am new to this site and have a 1994 850 and a 1989 760 GLE.Both cars have over 200,000 miles the 850 closer to three and still running srong.I had my 760 repainted last year because the paint was just gone but the 850 just has bad oxidation on the hood is there any way to remove this?

If it is just oxidation then you might be able to buff it out with rubbing compound. Most of them that look oxidized are actually peeling clear coat.

Hi lee238004,

You may have already found this answer, but just in case you haven't:

Unfortunately, if it is clearcoat failure, there is no fix other than to re-paint the area, or replace the part with another.

I am also a member of a car detailing forum (autopia) as I also had some oxidation issues with my 1980 244 DL.
In the process, I collected a lot of bookmarks and started a topic to collect more. There are a few that may help you:

Autopia forum: Helpful Threads for Newbies:

Look for the clearcoat and oxidation links under the Paint heading.

Hope that helps.

Good luck,
