We live in MN (pronounced C-O-L-D). On some very cold days, a 'reduced engine performance' warning can come on followed by the Check Engine light and then the car can just die. Dealer said something about moisture getting in and a valve freezing. First they drilled holes in a pipe (air intake?) then replaced it with a new part, neither worked.
Additional info from the last time this happened:
DTC'A ECM-913C, 130A, 261A, 262A
The car has about 130K miles on it.
Thanks for any insights into the issue and what to do next - I realize this is scant info!

Hard for me to know what's going on here, but they do sell a block heater that is attached to the engine...you get home, you plug it in...you can even set it on a timer. When you start your car it's warm to begin with- just a thought.

I have *once* heard of a frozen intercooler causing this. Of course, I live in Florida, so most of our problems have to do with overheating and high A/C head pressures

Your topic was last year but there is a good information for you.
I have the same car. I bought it 2 years ago. It could be one of these two problems.
1) "Air too cold and the computer cannot do is job and turn off power":
In cold condition, the air is to cold for the "air sensor" and the "computer" can not calculate the good mix of "air, gas and fire" for the engine. So the computer turn off the power. In fact, nothing is broken. Few minutes later, the engine retreive is power.
A tip: Volvo, in 2005, send a technical infromation about this (not a recall). To resolve this problem on some vehicule. Volvo modify the plastic parts which get the air for the engine, (locate:just over the radiotor and under the border oh the hood). The cost (here in Quebec): 200$.
It happen to me last week. My assumption finally? The plactic parts was not connect to the next part properly...
2) The air for the turbo can not get to : Air (pressurize) turbo entrance is blocked.
The flexible pipe (for the turbo), which get the air (pressurize) to the turbo is blockeb by the condensation . When the temperature goes to -20 to 0, a lot of time. condensation forms into the pipe. The result: A kind of mud, mix of oil, water and ice is made and block the flexible pipe. A lot of model to this during winter (at least in Quebec).
The flexible pipe is easy to find. It's the one, just on the left of the radiator. Attached to the pipe which past over the engine.
