XC90 AWD D5 2004 Oil Change and Tools

Hi there

I am a newbee to the group - hence the stupid question.

Can you please direct me to any links for carrying out an Oil and Filter Change on a XC90 D5 2.4Lt Diesel.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

It is quite straightforward, for a Volvo using basic tools.

The engine should be at normal operating temperature.
Remove the lower splashguard and place a container under the sump.
Remove the drain plug and allow all the old oil to drain out.

Reinstall the drain plug using a new sealing washer. Tighten to 35nm.
Replace the splashguard.

Remove the oil filter housing cover and the filter insert.
Remove the filter insert from the housing.
Remove the O-ring.

Clean the housing.
Lubricate and install a new O-ring.
Install a new filter insert in the housing.
Screw the housing and filter into place.
Tighten to 25nm.

Fill with new engine oil - start with 6 litres.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
Stop the engine and allow the oil to drain into the sump. Check the level and top up if necessary.

The attachment illustrates the filter to make it easier.

So i need :
A Seal Washer for the drain plug
The Filter
and the Filter O Ring

Do you know if these items come as part of a service kit ?
Otherwise i will hunt my car accessories shop for them

John,
They are all separate, at least in the U.S...don't know about where you are. www.fcpgroton.com www.myswedishparts.com and eeuroparts.com come to mind over here- they will probably be too expensive once you pay duty for where you are.

In the UK all the parts are separate but my local parts supplier, not Volvo, said he could have them within 24 hours.

If you have problems try: http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/. They are agents for several new and used Volvo parts suppliers. They pass on your requirements and the suppliers will reply with availability and price. They do ship to Ireland.
