Over the Cold winter months here driving our 760 we have noticed that the back end of the car is starting to sag a bit and unevenly at that ! the driver side sits about 3/4" lower than the passenger side. all that is in the trunk is a 20 kg. sand bag for added weight and traction on the ice and snowy roads and a full size matching spare " aluminum Wheel " so really i dont think it is over loaded the weight in the trunk is also evenly distributed.
Here's the funny thing ... When it warms up and the snow starts to melt the car levels out and sits up nice in the back end! From the information I have researched the 88 760 was supposed to be equipped with Nivomat self leveling Shocks. I am not the original owner of the car and only found that suspension work had been done on the car 30,000 km's before we bought it (Via Carfax) . Is there a way to tell if the existing shocks on the car are still the self leveling shocks?
I understand that if the shocks on the car are still original equipment that i must also change the springs to use a gas shock. Is this true? and if so is it advisable? The Nivomat shocks are very expensive!
Any help is appreciated. Thanks !

I think that the bottom end of the Nivomat is different from a standard shock.
This is a write-up of a conversion to 'ordinary' suspension:

IPD do a conversion kit but I feel that it would be cheaper to replace the Nivomats if the springs are OK, if you buy the Nivomats from IPD or FCPGroton and not a dealer.
