S70 ingnition key keeps turning

S70 ingnition key keeps turning

I have a 1998 S70 turbo. Lately when I put the key in the ignition to start the car, the key keeps turning in the ignition. Lucky it will catch and the car will start. What needs to be done to correct this issue? One garage wanted to change the entire steering column. Advise please.

The mechanical portion of the ignition switch needs to be replaced- this isn't very difficult.
