i have come across software to run codes but i was looking to actually hook up my lap top to my volvo through the little thingy under the coin tray or something under the hood so it can giv eme readings and such, if there is such an animal i havent found one for the volvo class yet... thanks for the help!

I have software that runs on my PC laptop that connects to the OBDII port under the coin tray and can display realtime diagnostic metrics data while I'm driving or when I'm stopped. The problem is a) I don't know the name of the company that wrote the software offhand and b) it's very very difficult to use, so I wouldn't recommend it anyway.
Instead I would search for OBDII software that runs on Palm or Windows CE devices, assuming you have a handheld. The software I've seen on the web for those looks much simpler yet every bit as powerful.
