Keyless Entry Question! 855T

Post by UncleBoost »

<94 855T>

Weird problem. I recently got my keyless entry and remote fobs programmed to work. I have discovered something in past couple of days.
There is apparently something wrong with the TailGate / hatch Lock motor since it doesn't respond to the remote lock/unlock signal and I will investigate that this weekend. However, the rear tailgate lock WILL Lock the other locks / doors and ARM the Alarm system when I use the key. It Just doesn't work with the remotes.

I have also discovered that If I manually lock the tailgate with the Key (Which locks all the doors) I can UNLOCK the car remotely but it WILL NOT LOCK the car remotely. Go to the Tailgate and UNLOCK it manually, Then and Only then can I remotely LOCK and UNLOCK with the fobs.
Is this an oversight on my part or is this a problem?
DEADLOCK or DEADBOLT comes to mind....... I have seen this term on the wiring diagram but not sure what it means. Could this be the problem or lack there of?

Tailgate locked~ Remote keyless entry will only UNLOCK the car But won't respond to LOCK.

Tailgate Unlocked~ Remotes Lock and Unlock car no problem.

Has anybody ever seen this problem?

Just got back from the Volvo Dealership. According to them, locking the car with the master Key has something to do with Valet Mode disabling the remote lock function, but allowing the "Unlock" feature to still work. Also I understand there is a VALET key which is smaller, is what you hand to the parking dude who parks your car.

Oh kaaaaaaaaaaaay!

:) Valet key: it's actually a common thing. My wife's 2000 Civic has one -- it's 'my' key to her car. When I need to open the trunk on the civic I have to pull the trunk open lever inside the car or it's no trunk for Matt. And get this: that open trunk lever has a valet lock out on it.

Additionally I think on both cars the valet key is barred from opening a locked glove box as well as trunk.

It could be a short in the wiring to the tailgate. I had the same problem. I could lock, and unlock the doors via the trunk, but when I put the trunk in the valet mode, I could lock, and unlock the doors with the remote, but when I put it in remote mode, I could only unlock the doors with the remote. I thought it was the motor, but I traced the wiring, and come to find out, there was a short, or many shorts, in the wiring. It was right at the point of the greatest bending of the wires. Now everything works like new. Hope this helps.
