How did you lose that?
It is a combined gasket for the inlet and exhaust manifolds between the cylinder head and the manifolds. To access it you would need to remove both manifolds.

Ok, I'm not a pro, when I look back there I see a lot of gaskets. You have a picture or something? Is It hard to change It?

The first attachment is of the manifolds showing the combined gasket at #10.
The other attachments give the procedure for replacing the manifold gaskets. It isn't a job to be started without pointing out the possible pitfalls. The 'preliminary operations' point out that the bolts and nuts must be treated with a rust solvent. This is imperative as they have probably been in there for 13 - 14 years and will be well rusted. If they snap as you remove them the cylinder head will have to be removed to have the broken bolts taken out by a machine shop. I speak from first hand experience as I have just replaced the manifold gasket on my son's 17 year old Talbot Express motor home. I broke 3 bolts which had been soaked in penetrating oil!!
You will have to decide if you are able to do this when you read the instructions in the attachments.
I hope this will help you to make up your mind.

The information on replacing the gaskets is from the VADIS discs. Other information is from a fairly large collection of books covering Volvo repairs.May I ask you where you get all this info from?
To check the inlet manifold gasket buy a tin of carburettor cleaner, start the engine and spray the carb cleaner around the gasket. If it is leaking the engine will surge as it draws the cleaner in. The other method is to spray water on the gasket. If it is leaking the engine will falter.

So, I've finally got my new gasket. But I have one last question before I get going, Since the gasket has 2 different sides. One side is made of metal and the opposite side is made of the usual paper sort of material. So which side should be mounted against the engine block? I have a feeling of that the metal side should but I want to be sure before I continue.
Thanks in advance

Ok, I haven't seen that.
But now I'm a bit confused, should the metal be against the manifold or the engine? Sorry:?
The attachment says against the manifold but I asked if It should be against the engine and you answered Correct.

That was a test to see if either of us actually read things properly.
My mistake - the steel side does go to the manifold.
