V50, 2005 — Dashbaord components shut down when driving

:x A few times now when I am driving my V50 2005, all electronic component shuts down. I have a brand new battery. This happens when I open the drivers window. Can somebody tell me the problem.

When you changed the battery did you follow the instructions about putting the key in position 2 before reconnecting the negative lead? Also did you initialize the central locking and courtesy lighting by locking and unlocking the door with the remote or a key?

Bill, thanks for the answer. When I've changed the battery, it was in a Volvo certified garage. They change it, so I presumed that it was properly done. I am not a car mecanic. How can I see in my garage if the steps have been follow like you described.

There is no way that you can check this. A lot of owners don't know there is a proper procedure for replacing the battery on these cars. It is to prevent accidental operation of the SRS units but occasionally it throws other units off course as well.

The Volvo dealer should have known the correct procedure so I think you may be looking at a return trip to your friendly dealer to see what has gone wrong. If this happened immediately after the new battery was fitted insist that it is their fault.
