Thanks.

Just recently got a new ETM on the 00 (107K) under the extended warranty (just under the 10 year "wire" so to speak).

I have a hard time articulating the difference in the way the two throttle's respond, but I like the "feel" of the 98 (179K)better than the "feel" of the 00 ETM. If I could "juice" it up a little bit (with the possibility of improving MPG), then so much the better.

I have been checking around salvage yards for a 960 throttle body, typical $$ is around 125.00. Does anyone know the actual size of the 960 throttle body "plate"? and how thick it is, it appears to be made of brass. I have buddy's that could probably make some of these if I knew the dimensions. the tolerances inside the throttle body have to be rite-on. Thanks. 2volvoken

$125?!?!?!

Thats obscene. How much do they want for just the throttle plate? The local yard here simply let me have the throttle plate after purchasing a bunch of other stuff. I wouldn't spend more than $5 on this modification. See if you can find a way to fill in your existing 850 plate. It is 65mm diameter.

Obsene is what I thought, so far all I can find is the complete throttle body assembly, I can't find one local to just remove just the plate. That is why I'm thinking why not just make one.

No pick your part type yard around you where you use your own tools to pull parts? Most places like that look the other way for stuff that fits in your pocket.

Well dont try to braze the 850 throttle body plate!
Too much heat to get it to flow and it warps the plate! :(
Thats 40 bucks from the pick and pull down the drain!
Next time I will try soldering it or maybe RTV or Marine epoxy.
The plates ARE brass- so they should be solderable- I should have tried that first! Anyone want a throttle body w a warped plate in it??

PPS Does anyone have a 850 throttle body that they arent using?
If i can get one right- I will make 2 and send you the new one!

I may try JB Weld on mine, just being careful to get it from both sides so it doesn't come loose. I'm afraid solder would be just as likely to break off as JB weld might be.

Be careful with that. Make sure the JBweld is not affected by oil residue from the crankcase ventilation.

I've seen way too many people asking for these 960 TB plates. If there is enough interest I'm going to start gathering up all the 960 throttle plates I can get my hands on in the local JYs and offer them here for a small fee.

I figured out how I am going to patch that hole. I'll post here when it's done.

The word on Volvospeed is that you can order just the plate from Volvo for ~$16. That's a whole lot better than your braising job or JB Weld coming apart and getting sucked into a cylinder.
