Maybe that sketch is Dale Earnhardt Jr's real problem! The DEI injection system his stepmomma gave him was rigged!

Misha,

They are messing with you, exhaust gasses don't burn. The silver pipe simply draws heat in from around the exhaust manifold/down pipe. A lot like my old Porsche 914 and the old VW bugs tried to heat the cars.

I fear we have wondered way off track on this thread. As the junior member of the moderator team I don't know how to split it up and I don't know where to put it if I did.

I took Misha's advice about the airbox heater. Now that I have the trap door opened permanantly, I was wasting that heat. So I designed a nice little tray out of aluminum, that I use to heat my lunch on road trips. It fits down next to the airbox and I can get two slices of pizza or a small ribeye on it. You have to sort of figure out how much time everything needs as you go. And your speed has a lot to do with the cooking temps. For a 6 oz ribeye to be medium rare at 70MPH is about 13 minutes.
Ron Popeil is very interested once I work out that whole "gas taste" issue. (Some people are so picky)

All kidding aside...I am on my third tankful since the airbox mod and once again a noticeable improvement in MPG.

Okay...it's official...this is a GREAT little mod. Third tankful just completed. This time I ran 87 octane because it was a fill up between paychecks and prices have crept up to $2.12 for premium. on 87 I got 23 MPG in mixed use (22.99 to be exact) that is STILL up from the best of 20 I have averaged since I got the car last July. I'm going to do the throttle body plate switch next month while I have the intake off for the oil trap changeout. If that could break the magic 24 MPG mixed use number I'd be matching that MPG on my old '99 Camry and doing it in a far safer, better performing car. Nice!
