Engine flush before sump O-ring replacement for XC 98 ???

Post by jamesconnelly1 »

Hi
Always very thankful for the help I have received on this site, Thanks!
I will be replacing the O-ring seals on the sump pump (oil pan) - due to noisy lifters. Car has 205K kms. Should I flush the engine before or after new O-rings? - And are there any oddities that I should be aware of or prepared for?

Of interest... or at least worth a laugh... I just had shoulder surgery on Thursday... I've asked my wife to do the work : )

You're going to have to drain the oil anyway- I wouldn't worry about flushing it at all...just take the pan off and clean things up really well- this will do more than a flush every time.

Depending, can I borrow your wife for a weekend? LOL

Wow...it was difficult...I had the wife helping and a neighbor. Some of the bolts were a bugger to get at (especially with one arm). Rust also made it hard. However it is done, and no leaks.

On a side note, we were unsure of how to clean the sump in an environmentally friendy way. Perhaps we should of had Volvo do it for us?

Thanks
James

Good job, James! Just curious if you took pictures and documented any of this? I probably would have cleaned it with Simple Green and a scrub brush and then hosed it off and let it dry before lubing things up and putting it back together.

I have a picture of Trisha (wife), and myself that I may put up. She was a very good sport.
