I have a 1996 850 wagon. I started to hear clunking coming from the rear passenger side wheel well. Upon further inspection, it seemed as though something was bumping against the floor of the trunk/wagon area just outside of the interior of the wheel well. I removed the floor covering and noticed about a 2 inch in diameter inverted cone that has a twin on the rear drivers side. The problem cone bounces up and down as I drive (which was banging against the floor to cause the clunking). I assume it is part of the suspension system. Any ideas what this is, what the problem may be, and approximately how much it should cost to get fixed.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Sounds like a broken rear shock mount. They are some kind of hard rubber material and they do sometimes fail. Cost is $15 each from fcpgroton.com. Might be time for new shocks (about $50 each) while you are in there. Installation is cake.
