i am about to purchase a timing belt tensioner and belt kit from fcpgroton and they have all oem kits at $180 including genuine belt, belt tensioner(mechanical) and idler pulley. their listing of compatible year/models is somewhat confusing. just wanted to confirm that my 2000 xc70's belt tensioner is the mechanical unit specified.

Yes, that's the correct one.

thanks MIJ. i checked for residue and signs of leakage around the water pump...none to be found. however what is the maint. interval on that anyway? i've heard 180k, which in my case is almost 80k away.
If the service is being done every 105K miles then I do the water pump every time as 210K miles is a long time to push it. You don't want to have to get back in there and do just the water pump really. and if it's the 70K interval then I do it every other belt change. So every 140K miles I replace the water pump with the rest of the components.
Ive seen them go a long ways but I have also seen them fail at 135K.

Ditto on what Binglax09 says...water pumps are around $50 at www.fcpgroton.com The OEM one is a bit expensive- I've used the Hepu water pump with great results. Aisin is Volvo OEM so don't let 2 different designations (OEM Volvo and Aisin) fool you if you want OEM for this part.

Any pump will be fine since this is a very basic design. Although, for the small amount extra I would go with an Aisin over anything else.
funny how FCP does a genuine volvo pump and then an aisin when they are identical parts. Hey you do get the nice blue box that says Volvo in white wooo hoo
