No, that's the ambient temperature sensor (outside temp) that goes in the air guide plastic cover that fits under the radiator...if you look around you should see a small hole that the entire contraption pops into on the passenger side.

Ok, but to verify - there are two of them; one on passenger & one on driver's side. Do they pop into the shroud/belly pan that I took off to drain the radiator?

Thanks!

To think, it's almost in good enough condition to trade it in - how sick is that?

Yes, it goes in that "belly pan" as you call it. Funny but my S70 only has one (even though it's the same year). Without it plugged in and shielded away from the hot engine (or pointing down towards the road), it will pick up temperatures higher than what it's suppose to.

Ok, that makes sense. They seemed to drop in channels and have holes/ports to snap into. But without knowing what they were and intended to do, I could have just been dreaming up what looked obvious.

Bellypan - well, I didn't want to call it a skidplate...the last rig I turned wrenches on was a '78 International Scout II - that had skid plates. It looks more like it works in conjunction with another shroud to force air through the radiator. So I guess it could be called a shroud, but that doesn't really hint to where it goes...

Next I'll have to submit the photo of the flanged nut that was sitting in the pan - maybe someone knows what it is supposed to be holding on
