Thermostat bolts

I am trying to change my thermostat on my 95 850. The torx bolt seems like it will strip if I turn it too hard. It seems ceased. Any hints on removing these bolts?

There is good write up on changing the thermostat in the repair database. A good dollop of PB Blaster or similar will normally give good results. If possible do this a few days before and running up to tackling the job. The torx socket/ driver is important as well. Now may be good time to flush the coolant .

I had to give my two torx screws a heck of a lot of muscle to get them out. I used a good set of high-end torx bits, almost stripped-out one of them, but each after enough muscle cracked loose.

A lot of PB Blaster, soaking overnight, and slow and steady pressure with the best quality torx bit you can find will help. Once they break loose they are easy.

Volvo found the error of their ways and they have coated steel bolts for around $1.00 each at the stealership. Have the new bolts on hand to replace the old ones.
