volvo 440 1.9td 1996 DRL?

Hello Volvo fans!

I want to try to put my cars lights with DRL on.
What can i do?
I read somewhere that must be something with the key in certain position and than to move the flash light selector...
Can anyone please tell me what to do exactly?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

If your vehicle was originally equipped with day running lights it is possible that someone has disconnected them. They are fed by a yellow cable attached by a spade connector to the centre connection of the main light switch. Take the light switch out and look behind it for the wire.

There is also a Dim Dip Relay, it is marked as such on the relay, mounted on the right hand side of the engine compartment on the slam panel.

Some owners remove this relay without removing the yellow wire from the light switch. This means that the day running lights still work on the position lights front and rear but not the dim dip headlights.

Nice to meet you.

I checked the main switch and I have the yellow cable.
Unfortunately, I don't have the Dim Dip relay. I think that somebody were annoyed by the DRL and took ed off.

There is another relay missing there... if I don't ask too much, can you please tell me what relay is missing too?
I'm having some problems with the alarm (if i have one), maybe is another relay missing.

If you reconnect the yellow wire you should get DRLs on front and rear parking lights. If the dim dip relay has been removed you may be able to locate the connector which would fasten to it. It will have 5 electrical sockets.

The two relay slots that are empty in your distribution board aren't listed for the diesel in VADIS so I can only think that they aren't needed.

You will have an immobilizer as standard equipment but I think the alarm may have been an extra on some of the cars.

Thanks for your support Bill!
You gave me the best indications to solve the problem.

In my case there 5 wires attached to the lights selector but only 3 contacts on the switcher.
I had a spare part with 5 contacts (from a diesel too) on the lights selector... i just mounted the the new switch and voila: I have DRL's now.

If we are gonna meet sometine, you will have at least 1(2-3-4-5) beer(s) from me.

Ohhh... Well, at that time i only made a check & photos. I didn't actually change the part.

I have the chance to get my hands dirty at least 3 times per month... just about last weekend i tucked the rear bumper off. Lot's of fun. :d
