auto transmission service 960

hi guys do need to know your opinions on servicing my auto the 960. do volvo recommend a filter change i read some where this is not necessary 165k km 1996 2.9 ltr cheers jack m

Servicing the AW automatics is mostly an fluid change. The filter is actually a screen and once the pan is off it can be cleaned. You would only replace it if it's damaged.

The main thing I would look at is the condition of the fluid. Pull out the dipstick and look at it. If it is Bright red and looks like new transmission fluid, don't worry. If it's darker red then you may want to change it for peace of mind. If it's brown/black/yellow/pink you want to drain it, change it, inspect the pan. Each of those colors indicate a problem so inspection will tell more.
