94 850 passenger seat problem

ok, the automatic passenger seat in my 850 isn't functioning properly. The seat will move when i push the side button to make the lower part move, but when i try the other button to make the upper part move, it doesn't work. You can hear the motor making a sound, but the seat stays in tact. Any ideas or problem solvers? let me know, thank you.

It sounds like the cable to the seat back is broken and needs to be replaced. If this is in fact the case here is the write up on how to do the repair .

The seatback motor has more than enough power to lift the seatback but not near enough to lift an adult passenger. To prevent passengers from burning up the $100+ motor, Volvo has put a breakaway section on the end of the $40 cable. If there is never an attempt to lift a passenger with the seat, the system will last 300,000+ miles.
It might be a good idea to always put your mother-in-law in the back seat!

lol, good one. but my seats are leather, all the repairs show seats of clot. any tips hoe to fix my seat?

I have replaced the cable in a 740 and in a 850 both with black leather. Move the seat all the way forward, get in the back seat and cut the hog rings at the bottom of the seat back. Pull the leather about 3/4 of the way up the seat, if it has not been off before you may have to cut more rings on the way up. You can now access the cable, gearbox etc. in the seat back.

We just replaced my 95 850 Passenger seat cable and that was leather. Works great. Dealer wants $80.00 for the cable. We put the drivers side on hold for the moment.
