XC90 2003 2 issues..not connected SRS, and rear hatch

Post by Larrysd »

For the past few month or so the rear hatch has had a mind of its own. Sometimes opening, sometimes not. There doesnt seem to be any emergency lever or button, on this model year. Is there away I can get the rear hatch open? The fob doesnt open trunk, nor does the door lock on drvers side.

About two days ago the SRS light came. I would like to see if it is nothing or something. I understand the following procedure is correct. Shut car off, wait 15 minutes, disconnect negative battery cable, put ignition on II, reconnect battery, hopefully everything cycles correctly and syncs and we ae good to go.
Otherwise take it to the dealer and pray.

Welcome to MVS.
In regards to the SRS on your model, you probably know better than me- seems like it may be a dealer/prayer thing...ughhhh.
On the rear gate not opening, at least w/ it's brother, the V/XC70's it's the wiring in the hinge area that due to bending over time, breaks or chafes and starts to short... That might be a good first place to look...usually the fix is simply putting some electrical tape over the chafed wire..

The car hadnt been driven all day, I disconnected the negative battery cable first and then put the key in the ignition, turned it to II position. Reconnected, hoping everything was a glitch and the code would reset.. The first code went away, now I have two new codes..anti-skid service, and SRS airbag service urgent...

the srs airbag service light seems to be a tricky one to clear,i was lucky,a local mechanic had a carmin type hand held one and it cleared it,had to put my car in as a 2002 s60 rather than 2001 s60,hope this helps

Just days ago I also started to experience the "anti-skid service, and SRS airbag service urgent" message. Took it to the dealership and was told that two devices on the low speed sensor network were faulty (CD changer and Radio display). Cost to repair is $1600 for parts + labor. No thanks. Taking those two items off the network was not an option. They tell me that by taking them off the network that the airbag sensor and all the other items on the low speed sensor network may not work correctly. Huh?!?! Why in the world would a CD changer have ANYTHING to do with the data/network for the airbag? Sounds like either a very poor design or hogwash info from the dealership.

I'm interested in any other comments from the OP or others regarding more info on this topic.

I will find out in about 3 or 4 months. We took car off the road to avoid insurance as we dont need the vehicle until winter..but after to talking to people the first thing to do is have the retailer reset the codes and see if that works. Other than that my attitude is to drive like you did pre air bag,a not worry about until you have to get it inspected unless they will provide inspection sticker.
