Question:
I bought my parts. My mechanic is putting in the struts, mounts, etc, allignment, two lower motor mounts. Labor cost $300.

I thought that was a pretty good price.

In my opinion it is not bad. Usually the shops I take our cars to do not allow you to buy the parts since they make a small amount of money on selling them too.

If you know his shop rates and how long it would take to do the work, you could subtract the alignment cost from that and confirm if it is a good deal.

Plus, anytime not having to crawl under the car is OK with me, if the price is right.

But that is just my two cents.

The price actually included an inspection too. So the struts, 2 engine mounts labor came out to about $190.

I will, but I will clear it with him first. I don't want to post his cell # or business # without his permission. I am sure he would appriciate the business, notifying him first would be best. I'll call him tomorrow.

If the shop labor rate is $70.00 / hour it appears that it would take 2.7 hours to do the work.

Perhaps somebody from the forum could give you an estimate on how long it would take to replace struts, mounts and two lower motor mounts? And are there special tools that might have to be used that would justify this price?

It still seems like an acceptable cost to me.

He's on vacation and I can't post his cell #. I'll post his info when he gets back to me.

Well, he is in Westchester, NY and he indicated that I could pass alone his phone number in private emails but I should not post it in a public fashion as there may be a conflict of interest with his present employer. So, if anyone needs a good mechanic in this area, you can email me and I'll send it along. Sorry this is the best I can do.
