1994 850 turbo in Kansas City with ~250K miles. Recently the car started taking a long time to start, meaning you had to crank it extra long time and often with multiple attempts. Now its to the point it won't hardly start at all. Fuel pump and relay have been changed within the last year and there is pressure at the fuel rail (took the cap off the valve and depressed the stem - fuel squirted out) so I'm not convinced it is a fuel problem. My wife, who drives the car, mentioned sometimes she would press the accelerator pedal and that seemed to do the trick. I already had a new TPS so I replaced and still no change. While I was attempting to check the codes I had the key on for a couple minutes when I heard a click near the radiator and then a faint whiring noise. I turned the key the rest of the way and the car fired right up. Once it starts it runs fine. Its just near impossible to start. I think at one time I replace a fuel related relay near/under the radiator shroud area, but can't remember for sure. We've had the car since 1998.
codes it shows:
A1; 223, 143
A2; 315, 241
A3; 444, 314, 141, 142
Looooong crank time, 94 850 turbo

Clear the codes and then see what comes back. Your A-2 code 3-1-5 is a loose gas cap code and the 2-1-4 code is for a plugged up EGR - normally that is the hole through the intake manifold behind the EGR valve being plugged up.
Neither of those will cause your problem.
Your observations are more telling than the codes, I suspect a partially broken wire to the master fuel system relay. That relay is the gray relay mounted on the fan shroud towards the driver's side of the car. The relay rarely if ever goes bad but the wires are exposed and they are subject to getting snagged. If something goes wrong with that relay or its wiring the injectors won't fire.
If you continue to have trouble PM me and I will try to scare up some time to take a look at it with you. I live over in Fairway but I'm at the Lake this weekend.

That sounds like a possible ETC sensor. The good news is it's a cheap and easy changeout.

Appreciate the info and the offer, Lee. I live in Roeland Park a few blocks north of Einstein Bros. If you live in Fairway we're practically neighbors. Enjoy your lake time. The wife and I will be at the Heartland Park race track in Topeka tomorrow. So I'll be back at it troubleshooting next week. I think we've just about used this car up, but I'm not ready to send it to the scrapper yet.Ozark Lee wrote:Clear the codes and then see what comes back. For anyone interested it was the fuel injector relay, the one buy the fan shroud. Ordered online from FCP Groton for about $25. No problem starts since replacing.
