Hey Guys ...I have a 2002 Volvo s60 that cuts off when I am negotiating a corner. After I come to a complete stop I start it and it starts right up. I have realized if I drive around corners without removing my foot completely off the gas it does not cut off. Also the idling seems fine until when I slow down and press on the brakes I get a little more vibration that is not normal....I took it to two mechanics and they say there seems to be nothing wrong.
so any ideas? any suggestions are welcome!!!!
2002 Volvo s60 engine suddenly cuts off
I too have had my engine cut off but not when turning corners. For me, it's when I'm sitting at a stoplight or in idle for awhile. I've noticed that the idle speed will fluctuate, then the vibrations start, and the engine will die. This will definately happen if the a/c is on but has also happened when it's not. I've done some research on the forum and (maybe b'c I'm desperately seeking) but I think my problem may be the ETM (electronic throttle module) even though I don't have all the 'symptoms'. Moderator MadeInJapan created a great forum about the ETM and signs you may have one failing. Next week I take my car in and will let you know what they find.

My wifes 2001 s60 was doing the same thing, after a couple machinics checked it out and didn't fix it, we took it io the dealership. There was a recall with the throttle, mabey the etm, they changed it that day, it's been over 8 months and never died on her again. BTW, there's another recall on the fan motor, if you've noticed the fan keeps running after you shut off the engine. Hope this helps, good luck.
Hi...it's me again, Sharon.
I just returned from the dealership with bad news. What I thought was my ETM ended up being something completely different and is going to cost me about $2,000 and after I've just spent $1,300 on a new suspension system! (Yes, I did have a little cry about the lemon I have purchased from the dealership.)
Anyway, there was or is a block in my vent box....
which caused the vent box hose to bust...
which caused my CAM seals (both front and rear) to leak....
which is dripping oil on my timing AND auxillary belt(s)...
which could cause them to slip off (due to the lubrication from the oil) and have my car break down completely as the timing belt controls 'everything'.
So in the end, I learned that a clogged or busted vent box can and will cause your car to shut down when in idle but I don't know about it causing it to shut down when taking curves so maybe your situation will be better than mine.
Good Luck!

Marsh, I'm curious if you solved the stalling when turning problem. I have the same problem and everyone tells me they have no clue as to why this happens. I have a 2003 S60 base model. Hope someone can provide an answer.

I have the exact same problem as Marsh - car may completely shut down when turning a corner (has happened twice), and slight tremble at about 15mph point when braking gently. The car will restart and drive normally after a shutdown occurrence. Per my mechanic, no error codes were stored. This was not a Volvo mechanic, they are a bit far away, but that seems to be where I will go next.
Is this related to the ECM issues I have read about?
I will post if I find out anything...
Thanks

I had a similiar issue, my S60 did not shut off thoug, it happened that while driving it would stutter, almost like a fuel filter clog. It threw a code that read Fuel Pressure too high at the Fuel Rail. It did this a few times at stoplights, on the freeway when I got on her. So I took her to the dealer, dreading the outcome, it was a simple Fuel pressure sensor that was dying. The cost was $375. Took 45 minutes to replace and another 20 to wash and vacuum my car. Marin Volvo, Grant Bos, is a great Service Writer. It looked easy enough, yet to find the problem you need VADIS to read the proprietary codes, or a good Service Writer at your dealer who will tell you what it is. VFL, TurboBrick-4-eva!
