2000 s70 Idle drops low when coming to a stop
This was not as big of a deal, but I just replaced the upper engine mount with a urethane bushing, so it makes the car shake. When slowing down, the idle drops to around 500 rpm rather than the normal of about 800-900. I have a manual shift, so this is happening when the clutch is depressed and not in gear. Once the car stops, the idle goes back to normal. It is just in the time that I am slowing down that the car idles rough. Any idea what may be causing this? This has caused my car to shut off a few times in the past (losing power steering around a corner at 30 mph is not fun).

Could be a bad ETM.

I noticed today that it only seems to happen when the A/C is on. Is it just because of the load? Is there anything I can do about it?

Sounds like the ECM. Even considering that it only happens when the AC is on but I'll admit that's strange. Take it in.Gatekeeper21 wrote:This was not as big of a deal, but I just replaced the upper engine mount with a urethane bushing, so it makes the car shake. I've had this same problem on my 2000 S70 NA for the past 10k miles. It seems to happen all the time. But, it is worse when the A/C is on.
It has completely stalled once because of it.
I chalk it up to a failing ETM.
I've taken it into the shop once, however they didn't do anything since there was no codes to pull. The service adviser simply attributed it to the age of the car.

So far with my XeMODex upgrade, it's better than new. I have about 10K miles on it now.FCPGroton wrote:I hate the ETMs on these cars. I will never buy a volvo from 99 to 02.

Try cleaning just the throttle-body. Take the black, mass flow tube? off and clean around the outside of the butterfly valve and just inside.

Sounds to me like its an idle air control valve. I had a Ford SHO that had the same symptoms. 15 min and $80 later that problem was solved. I never looked to see if Volvo uses them but I would think that they do. Maybe someone else can provide some further insite.
