97XC V70 AWD. Wicked bad rear clunk with sharp turn

I have just been given a 97 v70 awd by my wife's aging parents. 192K. It passed inspection in New York State. That's the good news. It just started making a significant and repeated clunk with sharp turns. This occurs when turning both directions, and there is no sound when driving directly forward. Do my in-laws really not like me, or is this a simple fix?

Typically clunking in sharp turns points to CV joints. Being an AWD car, it has 2 behind each tire. I would get under the car and look for torn rubber boots around the joints or grease thrown around where it shouldn't be. Both might point to your problem.

You might also grease the turn stops, they're white plastic pads on the front control arms you can see looking under the car from the front to the rear, no need to jack it up, just reach under there and smear some grease on them.
